What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the quality of being present and engaged with whatever is here in the moment in a non-judgmental way. Through mindfulness we can learn to be with both pleasant and unpleasant experiences in life bringing certain attitudes that will be more balanced.
What are some of the research-based benefits of a regular mindfulness practice?
- reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety
- boost creativity
- lower blood pressure
- improve focus and concentration
- increase self awareness
- expand a sense of gratitude and joys in life
- increase patience and sense of kindness to others and ourselves
- increase emotional resilience to life’s challenges
Research is based on participants attendance of an 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) courses
Mindfulness practices teach us to be present in our moment to moment experiences, build awareness of our habits and tendencies, and the ability to hold both pleasant and unpleasant experiences in a more balanced way. As we take these practices into our daily lives we build upon our sense of calm and clarity responding to life’s ups and down’s with less reactivity.
